Mary Masters Story

Each new creation is like the birth of a new baby to me. I hold it, mold it and love it till it's the
Very best I can create. Then it happens. Someone else sees what i cresate and it makes a
difference to them. Sometimes after seeing them, they cannot get them out of their minds.
They come back to see them again. They say, there is something about them. This is how
  it all began:
In the year 1990, two little girls bought home from school clay. The two girls are the most beautiful and smartest girls in the world. I know because they are my Granddaughters. They asked me to make them into little dolls with the clay. I never touched clay before but they were so cute, I could not turn them down. So I made them 9 inches tall.
I used their hair and cut down their clothes to fit the dolls. Then they wanted the rest of the family. So
I made them. To my surprise something wonderful was happening. Twelve inch people began to
appear all over the house. Some were made from people I seen on TV. Some were made from
memories or stories told by Grandmothers. My Kids said what I was doing was not normal and I
should show someone. Then one day a letter came and it said I was excepted into a juried art show.
Thanks to my kids. I got scared and thought people are going to laugh at me. I am no artist. So I made
Santas. Everyone likes Santa's. To my surprise. People like my work! I sold out. People wanted more
so I promised to
make a different Santa ever year. I started to sell all over the world.
I was featured in the newspapers, magazines and on TV. Then in 1995 I was picked to be Indiana's
premier artist. I opened a studio/store in Shipshewana Indiana. I also make a very collectable American
Indian collection. Plus one of a kind pieces. Most with with stories.
In the year 2000 a new store/studio was started in the middle of town for me. A home for my work. I cannot believe it. It is beautiful.
I showed people that I could paint in 2007 and my work was bought by Sunsout Puzzle to be made into Puzzles so now we sell puzzles in the store. What fun! Please come and visit . I am in the store most Weds. & Saturdays in the summer. 10:00 to 5:00. Please call for winter hours. The store is open Monday though Saturday 10:00 to 5:00. We are closed Sundays and Thursdays.
